Elegant touch gel nails starter kit

Last week I was lucky enough to win another competition! This time with a lovely company called Current Body. It’s a site I have only recently came across and I’m so glad that I did because their customer service is one of the best I’ve ever encountered. Last week when I saw they were giving away an Elegant Touch lux gel nails starter kit worth £70, I couldn’t stop myself from entering. I couldn’t believe it when I found out that I had actually won! I received my prize on Monday and decided to do a review on it as it’s something I’ve been toying about buying for the past year or so and thought it would come in useful for some of you who are also considering making the investment.

The Elegant Touch set comes with two classic colours; a bold red called ‘Material Girl’ and a pretty pink shade called ‘Sweet Dreams’. With the run up to Halloween looming (I painted my nails last Wednesday), I decided to go for the red. I started out by removing my old nail polish and giving my nails a quick clean up with a nail file and the wipe off cleanser which was in the kit.

After allowing the fast bond to air dry for a minute or two, I applying the base coat to my nails and placed them under the LED lamp for 60 seconds to set. I thought it would be a bit of a pain checking my watch waiting for a minute to pass however if you press the button on the top of the LED lamp it lights up for 60 seconds before switching off, therefore you don’t have to worry about checking the time.

LED lamp for gel nailsTop tip – After applying the base coat, I found it easier to paint both of my thumb nails first and placing them underneath the lamp before moving on to doing four fingers at a time.

Next, I moved on to applying the colour which I was a little wary of as it seemed to go lumpy when I put it on. Luckily after I put it under the lamp for the recommended 60 seconds, it appeared to smooth itself out. After painting my nails I finished by gliding the top coat on top for the ultimate glossy finish. Unfortunately the red varnish hadn’t fully dried yet which resulted in the brush staining red so I had to wait a little longer for it to properly set.

Red gel nails Final verdict: 5 days on my nails are still in perfect condition. I love the glossy, smooth texture you get with gel nails and the long lasting finish that comes with it as I can’t stand it when my nails chip after a day of application. Although the drying time wasn’t quite as quick as I would have liked, I think this is a great kit that I’ll definitely be using regularly – I just need to stock up on some new colours! I haven’t attempted to remove the gel from my nails yet but I’m hoping the process won’t be too testing. I’ll have to report back and let you know how it goes!
