Hot Pudding Tower The Six Medals

Last week me and my friends attended the preview evening at The Six Medals in Middlehaven, Middlesbrough. My friend’s brother works as a chef at the new Marston’s chain restaurant so we were able to get a sneak preview of the menu and sample the food before the pub opens its doors to the public on Monday 21st September 2015. If you’re from Teesside and wondering whether The Six Medals is worth a visit, keep on reading.

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door and promptly seated at our table by one of the members of staff. The restaurant was well decorated and had a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a log-burning fire and various seating areas. The staff were really friendly and explained that we had to order our food and drinks at the bar when we were ready. Shortly after we were given a questionnaire to fill in before we left based on our experience and were handed a £5 voucher each to go towards our meal.

The Six Medals Preview Evening

I chose the sweet chilli chicken crunch burger and upgraded my chips to sweet potato fries. The burger consisted of two battered chicken fillets drenched in sweet chilli sauce with prawn crackers, lettuce and a tomato. The meal came with coleslaw and a pedigree sauce which I wasn’t a fan of but they come in small ramekin dishes so you can leave them if you want. My burger was really tasty and I practically licked my plate clean (bar the dips), the prawn crackers were a nice touch but they were a bit chewy. As for the rest of the menu, it offered your usual range of traditional pub grub such as pies, curries, grilled food and sandwiches which were a little more expensive than other chain pubs in the area but they’re still affordable and the portions are good sizes. They also offer a carvery which is available 7 days a week.

My friends were too full for a dessert but I couldn’t possibly leave without sampling a slice of one of their gorgeous, gigantic cakes! The Six Medals offers a Cake Carry Out service which is perfect if you are too full to fit in a dessert after your meal but don’t want to miss out on a pudding. There was some unusual flavoured cakes and it was a tough choice to make however I decided to go for the Hot Pudding Tower which was a combination of chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce, Victoria sponge cake and sticky toffee pudding – it was as amazing as it sounded! I’m looking forward to going back and trying some more of their desserts.

I can see The Six Medals becoming really popular for pre-match drinks for Middlesbrough football fans as it is in perfect proximity of the Riverside stadium. I really enjoyed my visit to The Six Medals and will definitely be returning. If you want to receive offers to use towards your next visit, sign up to The Six Medals newsletter.
