Lifestyle | The Garage Spa, Barnard Castle
For New Years Eve I decided to have a quiet one by enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the Garage Spa in Barnard Castle before heading into the town for an Indian meal and finishing the evening with a night at the Morritt Hotel.
Spending the afternoon relaxing and bubbling away in the wooden hot tubs, the Garage Spa was the perfect way to end a busy year. With it being New Years Eve we were expecting the spa to be fully booked for the afternoon slot we were booked in for but during our time there we were mostly on our own with two other couples in the other rooms too. The spa is big enough for you to enjoy sections of the spa on your own which was great.
The atmosphere in the spa was lovely and relaxing. Very quiet and relaxing with warm lighting and candles scattered around the rooms. There was an inside lounge area with complementary fruit infused jugs and ice for you to enjoy which was a pleasant touch in place of a normal water dispenser.
The spa has a great variety of facilities including chill out areas, a steam room, salt room, sauna and a series of tubs ranging in temperature.
The outdoor section of the spa was great. During our visit it was drizzling and very cold however the contrast between the weather and the temperature of the outside hot tub was beautiful! We could have stayed in the outdoor hot tub for hours as the cold air was so crisp yet the tub was so warm!
There was some lovely seating areas outside which would be perfect in the summer or even just on a dry day. Outside there was also some garage style showers and a toasty sauna hut with a real burning fire inside.
During our stay we were allocated robes, towels and flip flops which were in the lockers ready for us to use. The changing rooms were perfectly secure with locks and everything you needed to get ready including a shower, toilet, sink, hair dryer and a full length mirror. They also provide their own branded toiletries for you to use which smell amazing!
I thought the cost was reasonably priced at £30 per person for 4 hours for general admission to the spa. They have plenty of seasonal offers and packages throughout the year and you can also add treatments onto your visit for an additional cost. I’m so glad I discovered this spa as it’s a bit different to the traditional spas you visit in terms of decor.
