A Healthier Version of Cider from Cranes – Low Sugar, Low Calorie, Full Flavour!
Today I’ve got a real game changer for you all. A couple of weeks ago I was introduced to a brand called Cranes* who specialise in premium cranberry cider. Not only is it the first cranberry cider of its kind, it is also a much healthier option in comparison to other fruity ciders on the market today. Whilst alcohol can never realllly be classed as a ‘healthy’ drink, this 4% alcoholic cider is the perfect alternative to the calorific ciders we all know and love. Today I’m talking all about Cranes and the reasons why I really want to see the Cambridge-born brand go global.
As I slowly but surely become more health-conscious, I’ve been putting more thought into what I’m eating and drinking. With the summer trying to make itself feel at home in between disruptions of rain and cloud, the cravings for a bottle of Kopparberg in a beer garden is growing. Whilst fruity cider is my go-to drink to enjoy in the summer sun, the sugar and calorie content is horrifying.
When I first discovered Cranes, I was amazed to find that each bottle is made using 100% natural ingredients. Made uniquely using fermented cranberries and stevia leaf in place of normal sugar, one 275ml bottle contains 99 calories and has just 5g of added sugar. When compared to other popular ciders that contain as much as 51g of sugar per bottle, it’s an amazing drink for the health-concious who don’t want to cut alcohol out completely.
It’s not a legal requirement to add nutritional information onto the back of an alcoholic drink so it’s easy to be naive and think ‘it can’t be too bad’. However, as I’ve been making more of an effort to think about what I’m consuming, nutritional labels have been a big factor on whether I buy something or not. With this in mind, I think it would be extremely beneficial if we could see what is included in some of our favourite beverages that we tend to binge drink on as it would make you think twice about opening another bottle or switching to a healthier alternative.
Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Well last week the North East was graced with some glorious sunshine so I decided to make the most of it by doing a spot of gardening whilst enjoying a bottle of Cranes. I can hand-on-heart say that Cranes does not compromise on taste, if anything, it brings more flavour and freshness than its competitiors. Available in three fruity flavours – original cranberry, strawberry & kiwi and raspberry & pomegranate, the taste is crisp, bubbly and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed all three flavours with strawberry & kiwi being my favourite because it was the sweetest. Ben and Dan, the founders of Cranes, have been in talks with supermarkets, chain pubs and retailers to get their brand stocked. I really hope Cranes becomes more accessible to the public as I would happily buy it.
