Dovecot Middlesbrough

Today I’ve got another local gem for you all that I’m sure you’re going to love! One of the latest businesses to open its doors to the North East is Dovecot Bar which is located on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough. Situated across the road from the ever-popular duo of streets – Baker Street and Bedford Street, Dovecot is in a prime location for a couple of drinks with your friends on an evening. Boasting Middlesbrough’s longest bar and 40 different gins to choose from, it’s a newfound haven for anyone who loves a socialable gin and tonic. Although I’m yet to visit Dovecot on a bustling evening, I have been a couple of times during its first month of opening to sample their food menu and it’s definitely one to try!

Crab and Potato Skins at Dovecot

I had been anticipating the opening of Dovecot for a while and though they had a couple of setbacks, the wait was definitely worth it. A bistro by day, transformed into an exciting bar by night, Dovecot offers a daring menu that works! A couple of weeks ago me and my mam popped in to sample the new menu, although it hadn’t officially launched yet, we were given a few tasters to give us an idea of what to expect. From gourmet mini burgers and finger-licking pork ribs to crab and chilli pots and Devils on Horseback (aka dates wrapped in crispy bacon!), we were impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Offering nothing but the best, tastiest combinations, I happily gave everything a try and enjoyed it all, despite not being a seafood lover and being a little hesitant about the dates!

Dovecot Interior

Promising a classier environment than other drinking places in the area, Dovecot is a stunning venue that is spacious and has a welcoming atmosphere. The bar is perfectly kitted out with eye-catching features such as copper wire caged light shades and luxurious gold and navy booths that I couldn’t resist stroking because they felt so soft.

The other week me and my mam took another trip to Dovecot to try their newly-launched menu. Offering an extensive brunch menu served from 10am until 2pm with tempting choices including a silver dollar pancake stack and eggs Benedict, Dovecot have really gone above and beyond to offer something different to the town’s food scene. We ordered from the ‘small plates’ menu which is like an English version of tapas, offering an interesting selection to cater for everybody’s taste buds. A few examples from the menu include molten baked Camembert, king prawn pil-pil and bourbon-glazed sticky belly pork.

Trio of Parmos at Dovecot Middlesbrough

We opted for the parmasan sharing board, perfect for any local who loves the famous Boro parmo. Served on a wooden board we were given a trio of chicken parmasans featuring an original one served on top of homemade chunky chips, a hotshot parmo and a tangy rarebit one. Having only had an original parmo before, I was looking forward to sampling the other flavours and I really enjoyed them both! I was a little skeptical of the rarebit but it was full of flavour and tasted like those Worcester sauce crisps you used to get. We ordered a side of chunky chips and sweet potato fries to accompany our sharing board which created the perfect lunch time meal for two.

Dovecot Linthorpe Road

Dovecot is fast becoming the ‘place to be’ on an evening in Middlesbrough and I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu and enjoy a drink or two on an evening. The staff are nothing but attentive and welcoming, making conversation and going beyond their job role which is great because you don’t get much of that these days. Dovecot is open from 9am until late, seven days a week, and serves until from 10am until 9pm.

Have you been to Dovecot yet? Do you like the sound of their menu?
