Beauty | Kissed by Mii: An Effortless Winter Tan?

Kissed by Mii fake tan from 25o

These frosty mornings are really taking their toll now and my skin is drier and paler than it’s ever been. Despite loving the seasons of autumn and winter, I hate how pale the cold makes me. Bronzed skin doesn’t come naturally to me so I’m always looking for ways to fake it and enhance my teeny-tiny, barely noticeable holiday tan. Like most people, I always feel happier and more body confident when I’ve got sun-kissed skin so from time to time I whip out the false tan in an attempt to feel good again.

In the past I’ve turned to the sunbeds to prepare my skin before summer holidays abroad with a ‘base tan’ so I didn’t burn. I’ve always been on the fence with sunbeds as I know how damaging they can be to both your skin and your overall health so now I try to avoid them. Over the last year or so I’ve tried a few different fake tans such as Freshly Baked London and Rimmel London Matte Instant Tan but I’ve never managed to achieve a steak-free finish (particularly around my ankles and feet!). Zoe from 25o kindly sent me a few products to try and review which included the Kissed by Mii, a three-step home care kit*. I was excited to try the set as I loved the colourful packaging and the fact it promised ‘effortless tanning from home’. Today I’m talking about my experience with the brand and if I’ve finally found a self tan that works for me.

The exfoliator is honestly the best I’ve ever used. The grains in the lotion are tiny but they get to work straight away. I applied it all over my body, paying close attention to my knees and elbows. My chest is usually very bumpy and I noticed a remarkable difference in the smoothness and softness of my skin afterwards. I find most other exfoliators to be very oily which I hate but this one feels like it gives your body a deep cleanse and leaves you feeling fresh and ready to apply some moisturiser. For a more intense exfoliation to remove any leftovers of your existing tan, the Tan Eraser mitt is great for this.

After exfoliating, it’s time to move on to the moisturiser. The moisturising lotion helps to prep your skin for the tanning lotion and also help prolong your tan and make it fade evenly over time. When I applied the moisturiser I paid close attention to my elbows, knees and ankles so the tanning lotion wouldn’t stick around those areas too much. If you have sensitive skin you may want to wait the recommended 24-48 hours after shaving or waxing before you apply the moisturiser and tanning lotion.

The third step is to apply the tanning lotion using the gloves included in the set. I’ve only ever used a tanning mitt to apply tan so using gloves was new for me. I can honestly say it made the application process so much easier! I didn’t have to worry about the mitt falling off or spinning around on my hand. The gloves were tight, secure and relatively long so they didn’t fall off; you’re instructed at the end to gently tan your hands and blend it up your wrists. I applied the tanning lotion in circular motions and lightly sweeped over my ankles, elbows and knees. I’ll admit that the tinted colour isn’t a very appealing shade but it definitely helps you to see where you’ve missed.

The self tanning set is priced at £19.99 which is more expensive than I’d usually spend but for me, the results were totally worth it. It felt like a luxury experience as it didn’t seem like a chore to apply. A little goes a long way on my pale skin so I was able to squeeze three applications out of the tanning lotion with plenty of exfoliator and moisturiser left to use for another time.

Overall I’m so happy with how this tan from Kissed by Mii turned out. The lotions smell lovely and there isn’t a typical fake tan smell. The only time I noticed the distinctive tan smell was when I slept with the tan on overnight. The tan requires roughly 8 hours set time before you shower. The three tubes are also suitable to use on your face which is great for matching your body, especially if you decide to go quite dark.
