Bistrot Pierre Middlesbrough

Since opening its doors to the public last autumn, Bistrot Pierre has quickly became a favourite amongst the locals in Middlesbrough. Offering a sophisticated French dining experience that resembles the quaint restaurants and eateries around France, you can enjoy a taste of Parisian culture without the travel overseas. Earlier this month I was invited back to Bistrot Pierre to try the new Spring/Summer menu, I took this opportunity to have a family dinner with Adam and both our parents.

The six of us were seated by the window and were offered drinks whilst we browsed the new menu which features a range of lighter seasonal dishes. In true French tradition, the menu at Bistrot Pierre has a good offering of seafood dishes such as Calamars (fried squid) and Cassolette De Moules which is a baked dish made up of mussels, king prawns, smoked haddock and sea bass. If you’re not a fan of seafood like myself, there are plenty of other options to suit your palette whether you’re a meat lover, veggie or have intolerances such as gluten, there is something to cater for everyone.

For my starter I went for the Fritot De Brie (deep fried brie) which is another new addition to the spring/summer menu. I was given three generous portions of deep fried brie which had a oozy centre making it very indulgent! Served alongside a pot of lightly spiced pear chutney, the combination worked really well together and tasted unlike anything I’ve eaten before. The chutney really made this dish for me.

Aside from Adam picking something from the specials board, the rest of the table chose another new dish from the menu – Salade De Canard. This was a Vietnamese crispy duck salad complete with soy, chilli, ginger, coriander and sesame seeds, which as you can imagine was as tasty as it sounds! The duck was beautifully crisp with not an ounce of fat on it.

Pork Medallions Bistrot Pierre Middlesbrough

For the main course I got the Medaillons De Porc (marinated pork medallions) based on my mam’s recommendation who has had it before. The pork is slow cooked in honey, has a mustard glaze and is served with pieces of sausage, caramelised apples and a classic French butter sauce called Dijon Beaurre Blanc. I’m not normally a fan of mustard but it went really well with the pork which was cooked to perfection.

Strawberry Sundae Bistrot Pierre Middlesbrough

As for desserts, there was just me, Adam and Adam’s dad who had room left to squeeze in a third course. Adam originally ordered the new chocolate sundae but after a mix up in the kitchen he was given the Méli mélo de fraises et meringue (strawberry and meringue sundae) instead which he was actually really happy about! The dessert was a sundae made up of strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberries, crushed meringue, marshmallows, pistachios, strawberry coulis and crème Chantilly.

I ordered my favourite, the Délice au chocolat (chocolate brownie) which was delicious as usual and stuck attractively in my teeth whilst Adam’s dad ordered the Le Saint Flour Bleu cheese board of blue cheese served with crackers, celery and a red onion dip.
