Hello everyone! I hope you’re all safe and well during this crazy time we have found ourselves in. 2020 is turning into a bit of a write off and certainly not how anybody had imagined or hoped it would be. Understandably, life as we know it is going to be a little different for a while and with the uncertainty of everything, it’s always nice to have a little something to look forward to. Whilst all of our favourite things such as travel, eating out, watching sports, attending events and seeing our friends and family is now out of bounds, one way to brighten up your week is to make the most of the amazing local businesses trying their utmost to stay afloat during this troubling time.

Lockdown has encouraged me now more than ever to shop locally and support independent, local businesses who may be struggling during this time. Below I’ve listed just a few Teesside based businesses that are venturing out of their comfort zones to adapt to the current circumstances and continue to make their amazing businesses viable during this pandemic. This post is in no way sponsored, I just want to share some love and give everyone a little something to look forward to when the current situation is so bleak.

Barbs Pizza DIY kit

As fully fledged pizza fans, Barbs Pizza (previously known as Barbarossa) is our favourite local pizza place. During lockdown they’ve been offering a collection service on their wonderful woodfired pizzas which has been a great success. Last week Barbs Pizza announced the release of their DIY pizza kit which allows you to make your very own Barbs-esque pizza at home – A fun way to get the kids involved in making the tea one night! The kit includes x3 sourdough balls, Barbs pizza sauce and x2 mozzerella balls – enough to make three 10″ pizzas for just £14.95. Delivering to TS postcodes.

Two Little Birds

I really feel for the people who have had to celebrate birthdays at home since the government restrictions came into place. I came across a lovely Instagram page the other week called Two Little Birds offering charcuterie grazing boards and afternoon tea boards that look incredible! I bet these would make a lovely doorstep delivery for a loved one to help them celebrate a special occasion from home. You can even add prosecco and/or beer to your order to make it extra special too! Available for pre-order, 48 hour notice required. Delivery service available in and around Middlesbrough for a small charge.

Uppals convenience store

Uppals convenience store in Ormesby, known more commonly to the locals and I as Lacky’s are doing daily deliveries for orders of £15 or more and stock all of the essentials such as bread, milk and flour as well as life’s little luxuries like alcohol and sweets. Uppal’s have started doing sweet boxes filled with your favourite sweets, go for a mixed fizzy and jelly box like we did or pick your own – the options are endless.

Hall’s Wholesale Meat

After struggling to get our hands on certain meats in the supermarkets we resorted to placing a meat order on MuscleFood. Whilst their hampers are pretty good, I wanted to find a local butchers we could order from instead. A friend recommended Hall’s Wholesale Meat who do various meat hampers and a wide range of individual products. We ordered the slimming hamper which comes with a variety of high quality, lean meat which should see us through for a couple of weeks! The staff are really friendly and they often share great deals on their Facebook page. You can place an order on their website or give them a call order. They offer delivery on certain products and you can also collect in store.

That Cake Saltburn

That Cake is a place I’ve been wanting to try for a while before lockdown restrictions came into play as their cakes look incredible. They’re offering a variety of treat options including brownie boxes, lucky dip cupcake boxes and sweet grazing boxes which can be purchased on their website. They sell out pretty quick but you can sign up to be alerted by email when products come back into stock.

Up The Booze

If alcohol is more your kind of treat, then pub owners of the famous Spensleys pub/club have came up with the brilliant idea of bringing the booze to you via a delivery service called Up The Booze. You can buy everything from cider and beer to spirits and champagne all at reasonable prices with fast delivery.

Ted & Gingers

Now for a takeaway that has had rave reviews from the beginning. Ted & Gingers is a bar and eatery in Stockton serving up an ever-expanding menu of mouth watering toasties, pizzas, pastas and parmos including a mac and cheese parmo and a Camembert pizza! We first tried their famous toasties when the owner, Kelly, had a trailer at Teesside Park and they were amazing. We’re yet to order from here but it’s at the top of our list for our next takeaway night. Currently open 7 days a week, delivering across TS1 – TS23 postcodes.

I hope this helped to give you some ideas of ways to treat yourself during this lockdown period and hopefully it won’t be much longer until we can enjoy them together with our family and friends. Stay safe everybody x
